Ship-To GSTIN mandate and e-way bill closure facility put on hold
GSTN had announced two changes for 2026: mandatory Ship-To GSTIN details in certain bill-to/ship-to transactions, and a facility to close e-way bills on delivery. Their start dates were moved (first 15 June 2026, then 1 August 2026), and an advisory dated 29 July 2026 was reported to keep both on hold. Check the GST portal's news section for the current position before changing your processes.

Enhanced interoperability between E-Way Bill portals
GSTN announced enhanced interoperable services between the main E-Way Bill portal and E-Way Bill 2.0, so more functions can be carried out on either portal with mirrored data. See E-Way Bill 2.0 portal.
· In force
E-Way Bill 2.0 portal launched
NIC launched a parallel portal at ewaybill2.gst.gov.in. It mirrors data with the main portal and supports generation, Part B updates, extensions, consolidated e-way bills and printing, so work can continue if the main portal is down.
· In force
Two-factor authentication mandatory for all users
After phased introduction for larger taxpayers, two-factor authentication became mandatory for all users of the E-Way Bill and e-invoice portals. OTP methods: SMS, Sandes app and NIC-GST-Shield app. See E-Way Bill login OTP.
· In force
180-day document limit and 360-day validity cap
The portal stopped allowing e-way bills for base documents dated more than 180 days before generation, and capped total validity (including extensions) at 360 days from the original generation date. See validity rules and generation.
