What is a Transporter ID?

An e-way bill records who is carrying the goods. A GST-registered transporter is identified by its GSTIN. A transporter without GST registration needs another identifier, so the E-Way Bill system issues a Transporter ID (TRANSIN). It is 15 characters long and built in a GSTIN-like format based on the state and PAN.

Suppliers enter the Transporter ID in the e-way bill so the transporter can then log in and update vehicle details (Part B).

Details and documents you'll need

  • Your PAN. The legal name must match the PAN records.
  • The state where you'll enrol, and your business address.
  • Type of business constitution (proprietorship, partnership, company, etc.).
  • Contact details, including a mobile number and email for OTP verification.
  • Identity and address details of the proprietor, partners or directors, and proof documents as requested on the form.

How to enrol: Form GST ENR-01 step by step

  1. Open the official portal

Go to ewaybillgst.gov.in, open the Registration menu and choose Enrolment for Transporters.

  2. Fill Form GST ENR-01

Choose your state, enter the legal name (as per PAN), PAN, business type and address details.

  3. Validate PAN and verify contacts

The portal checks your PAN and sends OTPs to verify your mobile and email.

  4. Upload proofs and choose login details

Upload the documents asked for, then choose a username and password.

  5. Submit and note your Transporter ID

On successful submission the portal shows your Transporter ID. Share it with suppliers so they can enter it on e-way bills.

After enrolment: logging in and updating Part B

Log in on the official portal with your new username, password and OTP. When a supplier generates an e-way bill with your Transporter ID, you can update the vehicle number (Part B), or change the vehicle during transit, from your login.

Enrolment is for e-way bill purposes. It does not by itself make you liable to pay GST or file GST returns, and it doesn't replace GST registration if your business is required to register.
