How to Check and Verify an E-Way Bill
To check an e-way bill, open it on the official portal, either through the public print option (with the e-way bill number and matching details) or from your account after logging in. Compare the details with the invoice and look at the validity date and status. There's no public tracking of vehicles by number.

What “checking” an e-way bill means
People usually want to confirm one of four things:
- That the e-way bill exists on the government system (it isn't fake).
- That its details match the invoice and goods.
- That it is still valid (not expired or cancelled).
- Which vehicle is recorded for the movement.
Check an e-way bill without logging in
- Get the 12-digit e-way bill number
It's on the printout or shared by the supplier or transporter.
- Use the official portal's public print option
Enter the e-way bill number and the other details asked for, plus the captcha. See print without login.
- Compare the details
Match the GSTINs, document number and date, goods, value and vehicle number with the paperwork you have.
If the portal can't find an e-way bill with the details you enter, ask the generator to confirm the number and details. A printout that the portal can't reproduce should be treated with caution.
The portal's home page also has public search options, for example to look up a taxpayer or transporter. These help you confirm that a GSTIN or Transporter ID is genuine.
Check e-way bills after logging in
- Your own e-way bills: use the e-Waybill menu or the reports section to see e-way bills you generated, with their status.
- E-way bills generated by others for you: as a recipient or transporter, the reports show e-way bills where your GSTIN or Transporter ID is used, so you can spot ones you don't recognise and reject them in time.
Can you track an e-way bill by vehicle number?
Not publicly. The official portal doesn't offer an open “track my truck” feature. The vehicle number is recorded in Part B, and the parties to the e-way bill can see it in their accounts. Tax officers have their own verification tools. Websites that claim to show any vehicle's e-way bills on request are not official services.
Is the e-way bill still valid?
The “valid until” date and time is printed on the e-way bill. You can also estimate it from the distance using our e-way bill validity calculator. An e-way bill that is expired or cancelled can't be used to move goods.
Warning signs of an invalid e-way bill
- The portal can't find it using the number and details.
- The GSTIN, invoice number or value differs from the invoice.
- The vehicle number doesn't match the vehicle carrying the goods (and wasn't updated).
- The validity has expired, or the status shows cancelled.
